Why Intersectionality Matters - Dr. Ollie Folayan MBE
A study conducted by McKinsey and Co. highlights the persistent challenge of achieving workplace equity despite notable advancements. Acknowledging intersectional communities, particularly Black, Bangladeshi, and Pakistani women, is crucial as it holds the potential for substantial benefits.
Intersectionality serves as a framework for comprehending the distinctive amalgamations of discrimination and privilege that can arise from individuals' identities, encompassing gender, ethnicity, social status, and religious affiliation.
This session will delve into the genesis of intersectionality and its relevance in an evolving technological landscape. Participants will gain insights into cultivating an intersectional approach to STEM career advancement and inclusive design.

Allyship Workshop: From Apathy to Advocacy - Amanda Kelleher
In this session, participants will learn the importance of allyship, including the difference between a diversity champion and a diversity ally. The workshop will feature case studies and role-playing scenarios, leading to the development of an allyship toolkit. The global implications of allyship will also be discussed.
Speaker: Amanda Kelleher, AFBE member and creative trainer with experience in diversity, mental health, and inclusivity initiatives across five countries.
The Ethics of Ethnic Diversity - Dr. Ollie Folayan MBE
This session will explore the nature of racism through the lens of history, summarising disparities within the engineering sector and providing practical tips for becoming an ally of Ethnic Diversity. It will also outline steps organisations can take to become more equitable.

Understanding Barriers to Recruitment and Retention for Diverse Groups - Dr. Nike Folayan MBE
This talk will explore the barriers faced by underrepresented groups in engineering. Using known engineering techniques, the session will identify and review these barriers, allowing for a structured approach to improving ethnic inclusion.
Speaker: Dr. Nike Folayan, Technical Director at WSP and co-founder of AFBE-UK, with extensive experience in driving diversity in engineering.
